Xeros planning to roll out its green washing machines at fast pace

'‹'‹Environmentally friendly washing machine maker Xeros '‹said the roll out of its commercial laundry business is continuing at a good pace.

It is now installing machines at a rate of one a day and expects this rate to progressively increase.

Rotherham-based Xeros makes washing machines that replace most of the water with polymer beads. The beads attract stains to the bead surface, extracting dirt and producing a superior result at a lower cost.

The group said it has delivered on the strategy it laid out at its fundraising last November.

Group earned income rose from £95,000 to £744,000 in the five months to December 31 and it installed 56 commercial washing machines over the five months to December 31 and 94 in the seven months to February 29.

Mark Nichols, chief executive of Xeros, said full-scale trials for leather processing are on track and are scheduled to be completed around the middle of the year.

“We anticipate that these trials will show that our polymer beads, which were specifically designed for this application, deliver economic, operational and sustainability improvements,“ he said.

Under the trials Xeros’ patented process replaces the majority of water and chemicals used in leather processing with Xeros’ high performance polymer beads.

The high consumption of water, chemicals and energy are the biggest challenges faced by the leather industry.

In laboratory trials with the University of Northampton, Xeros said it has proved its patented process produces a superior finished leather product whilst significantly reducing the environmental impact from water usage and effluent.
