A year's work at historic Althorp for restoration specialists

Building conservation and restoration specialist William Anelay has been awarded a contract to carry out phases of restoration work at the historic Althorp House, above.

The project at the country estate, which is due to last 54 weeks, will involve re-roofing, stonework replacements and extensive refurbishment of the mathematical tiles which face much of the house.

York-based William Anelay is one of Britain's oldest building company's.

Established in 1747, it specialises in the restoration, conservation and refurbishment of listed and historic buildings and properties.

The company, which was acquired by its management team in January 2006, employs more than 100 permanent staff with office bases in York and Manchester.

Althorp House is set within a country estate of 14,000 acres in Northamptonshire and has been the ancestral home of the Spencer family since the early 16th century.

It is currently the residence of Charles, the ninth Earl Spencer, brother of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
