Yorkshire couple’s millions make them top philanthropists

YORKSHIRE businessman Terry Bramall and his wife Liz are among the most generous philanthropists in Britain, it was revealed yesterday.

According to the annual Coutts Million Pound Donor Report, the couple have donated £100m into the Liz and Terry Bramall Foundation, to help good causes close to their hearts.

Mr Bramall’s former business, the Doncaster-based construction group Keepmoat, was the subject of the biggest ever buyout deal in Yorkshire in 2007. It was sold to its management for £783m.

The management buyout, led by chief executive David Blunt and three other company directors, saw major shareholders Mr Bramall and Dick Watson exit the business.

The Coutts report, which was produced in association with the University of Kent, found a record total of 232 separate “million pound or more” philanthropic donations made by individuals, trusts and corporations in the UK during 20010/11.
