Yorkshire runs a tight ship over spend on gifts

Twenty seven per cent of people in Yorkshire said they have never overspent on their Christmas gift shopping, compared to 20 per cent of the rest of Britain.

Twenty six per cent of people living in Yorkshire do all their shopping several months in advance and resist any last minute ‘top up’ gift shopping, and over a third shop in the sales to avoid going into debt, the survey revealed.

Nationally, one third of women will be splashing out on extra presents in the run-up to Christmas, compared to a quarter of men, the data found.

Women in their thirties and forties are particularly likely to exhibit this behaviour, with almost half buying last-minute stocking fillers and tree presents for family and loved ones, it said.

The survey found that almost two fifths of women believe Christmas presents are so important that price is not a priority.

NS&I’s findings also showed total spending for women is, on average, £50 higher than men.

Twenty two per cent of men buy all their presents months in advance and within budget, compared to 14 per cent of women, NS&I’s findings revealed.
