YP Letters: Would you know this is a Post Office?

From: Phil Penfold, Lawn Road, Doncaster.

WITH the announcement of Post Office closures in Yorkshire coming thick and fast these
days, it may be helpful to your readers to know how some
of them will look in future,
should they be “merged” into other businesses or trading outlets.

Forget the old GPO days of going out to buy some stamps, or to post a parcel, to renew your driving licence or to pick up your pension, for here at one branch in Doncaster you can now form an orderly queue to the counter while selecting (and maybe even consuming) a wide range of alcoholic drinks and snacking on a selection of delectable crisps and nibbles.

In fact, you could probably – if you wished – spend that generous postal order from Great Aunt Jane, or your benefits from Her Majesty’s Government, before leaving the premises.

How will you know that this is a Post Office?

Look closely. There’s the tiny logo for that woefully diminished and clearly now defeated organisation up there to the left of the in-your-face signage. But you will probably need a magnifying glass to see it.

Cheers!
