The Wakefield-based company has now set up YPO Procurement Holdings Ltd to offer its products and services to the private sector for the first time.

A spokeswoman said the formation of the limited company is “a natural progression for YPO and part of its ambitious expansion plans”.

Paul Smith, procurement and supply chain director at YPO, said: “Our vision is to continually

provide the best possible value for money when procuring goods and services for our customers.

“YPO has been hugely successful in supplying products and services to the public sector and being able to replicate this success in new markets is an exciting prospect.”

YPO is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. It is led by managing director Simon Hill, a former executive at Yorkshire Forward, the now defunct regional development agency.

The company started trading on September 15. It is wholly owned by the founder members of YPO which are made up of 13 local authorities. It also has formal relationships with 31 organisations across local government and the wider public sector.

YPO has an annual turnover in excess of £500m, with a range including approximately 27,000 products and 100 service contracts.

It was set up in 1974 to aggregate the procurement spend of its owning local authorities. YPO said it has helped drive public sector efficiency savings through its bulk buying power.
