I READ with dismay the account of a clergyman who described the clap for Captain Sir Tom Moore as the ‘cult of white British nationalism’ before retracting the remarks (The Yorkshire Post, February 6).

Since the Black Lives Matter movement began last year, we have been afraid to voice an alternative opinion for fear of being labelled ‘racist’.

In fact many people are now more afraid of the activists with threats of this nature, than citizens under dictatorships.

We should learn from history, not try to destroy what has happened and replace with an alternative. Indeed the values of Sir Tom are those we should emulate.

If we wish to show our thanks and honour him then, we should do so and be unafraid of those individuals and certain journalists of shout ‘racist’.

We are not racist. We want fairness and equality – equality – not bending over backwards to tilt the balance yet again in the other direction. Equal opportunity should mean just that. We need a return to common decency and fairness without fear of activists rampaging through our streets again, defacing what has been and trying to change.
