Contest set to spice up interest in curry careers

A FURTHER education college is launching a competition to find the country’s best young curry chef as part of a drive to close a skills gap in the Indian restaurant trade.

Bradford College has already developed the International Food Academy to help to train skilled chefs for curry houses which are facing a staff shortage.

Now it is running a competition to find the best aspiring chef in the UK. Organiser Colin Burt said: “Colleges need to address the skills shortage in Asian restaurants and where better to begin than Bradford? The shortage in skilled chefs has prompted the launch of the Junior Curry Chef competition.

“We’re keen to promote and encourage British-born chefs, both female and male to develop the skills needed to fill the gap.”

The college says tightening of immigration laws has caused the shortage of skilled chefs.
