Free school rated good by Ofsted’s inspectors

ONE of the first free schools to open in the country has been rated as good by Ofsted inspectors.

A new report rates all key inspection areas at Rainbow Primary in Bradford as being good.

It is the first free school in Yorkshire to receive this rating with the first two to be inspected, the King’s Science Academy in Bradford and Batley Grammar both being found to require improvement.

The report into Rainbow praises the quality of teaching, pupil attainment and the leadership and management of the school, which was set up in 2011 by ATL, an enterprise organisation in the city formerly known as Asian Trade Link. The report says: “The executive principal and vice principal have wasted no time in making sure that teaching and learning for all pupils are good. They have successfully overcome major obstacles including the delay in moving to new premises while coping with a substantial increase in pupils since September 2012.”

Inspectors also praise the school for its “very effective” use of pupil premium money which schools are given for every child who is on free school meals.

Governance at Rainbow Primary is said to be strong with trustees having a “clear vision for driving the school’s performance very closely.”
