Girls’ school shows parents how to raise their teenagers

A PRIVATE girls school has developed a seminar aimed at helping busy parents with the challenge of raising their teenage daughters.

And the approach by Harrogate Ladies’ College has proved so successful it is being rolled out by the Girls’ School Association for other private schools in the country.

The college developed and hosted evening seminars for parents addressing a range of issues, such as social networking, internet safety, friendship and the importance of having a work life balance.

Harrogate Ladies’ College headmistress, Rhiannon Wilkinson, also launched a strong attack on “the WAG culture”, women famous for who they are married to rather than their own achievements.

Speaking at the evening for parents, Mrs Wilkinson said: “From a very early age your daughter is exposed to a celebrity saturated culture which sadly endorses undesirable values.”

Sheila Cooper, executive director of the Girls’ Schools Association, said: “We liked what they have done so much that we cascaded it down to other member schools and they have begun using it already.”
