Headteacher to leave lasting legacy with new building

A NEW classroom block has been opened at a Harrogate school named after the headteacher who is celebrating her 10th anniversary there.

The Hunter Building is part of a £1m investment in new facilities at Rossett School, and has been named after the school’s headteacher Pat Hunter.

She said: “It is absolutely fantastic to be able to say our new classrooms are now open and we can make use of this much-needed space for our growing number of students. It will make a huge difference to the school.”

The new classrooms were needed after growing demand for places at Rossett School, which has increased its Year Seven intake after being continually oversubscribed. The sixth form is also understood to be growing rapidly.

Mrs Hunter, who retires this summer, said: “It has been an absolute pleasure working at Rossett over the last decade.”

Deputy headteacher Paul McIntosh added: “The impact that Mrs Hunter has had over the past 10 years has been huge –not just the tangible changes that we can all see like the new building and our new reception, but also the intangible aspects too.

“The school has a caring yet achievement-focused culture, where students are encouraged to develop skills and characteristics that will serve them well long after they have left Rossett. The credit for that must go to Mrs Hunter.”
