Mentoring scheme gives extra support

A mentoring scheme at the University of Sheffield (US) has started helping local school children to boost their academic attainment and their aspirations.

The “US in Schools” initiative lets pupils from local schools receive one-to-one mentoring and classroom support from the university’s current students while they simultaneously get to extend their CVs.

The initiative also stresses that university is viable for anyone with the potential to study at higher education level, regardless of their individual social or economic background.

Earlier this month, pupils from Sheffield Springs Academy visited the university to learn first hand about undergraduate life from their mentors.
