New head for regional body

PROFESSOR Philip Jones, vice-chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University, has been named as the new chairman of the board of Yorkshire Universities.

Both Professor Jones and new chief executive Roger Lewis have been appointed to help its work with the 11 universities and three higher education institutions across the region.

Professor Jones has been involved with Yorkshire Universities since 1998. He said: "Yorkshire's universities work together by using their collective expertise, resources, skills and influence to maximise their impact on raising aspirations and socio-economic wellbeing.

"Yorkshire Universities plays an important role as the voice of higher education in the region and I am greatly looking forward to the challenge of providing a coherent leadership in challenging times for the sector."
