Parents warned over parking

AS the new school term starts, parents are being urged to help keep their children safe on the journey to school by curbing their school gate parking.

As part of a South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership initiative, police will be giving advice outside primary schools across the county in a bid to ease congestion at the school gate and improve safety for pedestrians.

Parents are being encouraged to walk to school with their children instead of driving.

Superintendent Eddie Murphy said: “Drivers should pay particular attention when driving outside schools and be alert for pedestrians crossing the road between parked cars.

“Remember that a vehicle can be a deadly weapon and the consequences of a traffic collision can be devastating for everyone involved.”
