Private school’s head girl team celebrating success by the dozen

THE HEAD girl team at a private South Yorkshire school is celebrating achieving 12 A* and A grades between them.

Sheffield High’s head girl Jennifer Utting, from Deepcar, secured an A* an A and a B in biology, chemistry and physics and an A in critical thinking at AS level.

She also has an A* in the AQA Baccalaureate and now hopes to study medicine.

Deputy head girl Shalaka Darshane, who joined the school from Sitwell Primary in Rotherham, achieved an A* in English Literature and two As in geography and Spanish.

Shalaka also has a grade A* in the extended project of the AQA Baccalaureate and celebrated success at AS level in both religious studies and critical thinking.

She is now looking to study English at Durham University.

Sophie Green, who was also a deputy head girl, came through Sheffield High’s Junior School.

She gave the head girl team a sporting dimension with her outstanding efforts in six different sports. Sophie captained a rounders team to victory in the national finals, helped the netball team to many victories and has also won individual and team national awards in trampolining.

She passed biology, chemistry and maths with A* with AS PE also at the highest grade available –an A. She is now off to Nottingham to read medicine. The school saw its tenth year of a 100 per pass rate, with 95 per cent of students achieving grades A* to C for the second successive year.

Well over 50 per cent of entries from 84 candidates were in A-level maths, further maths and the sciences.
