Sister act brings in string of top grades

TWIN sisters have told how they helped each other out in their weaker subjects to both achieve GCSE success.

Identical twins Stephanie and Charlotte Clements picked up 20 good grades in their exams, including seven As.

The 16-year-olds were among those celebrating success yesterday at Brigshaw High in Allerton Bywater, near Castleford.

Rather than being competitive the pupils said their different strengths had helped them both to succeed.

Stephanie said: “Charlotte is better than me at maths and was able to really help me.”

Her sister repaid the compliment, saying that Stephanie was better at science and was able to support her in that subject.

Charlotte picked up five A grades in English Literature, history, maths, ICT and statistics, Bs in art and design, English language and additional science and two Cs in combined science and religious studies. Stephanie also achieved an A in English Literature and another in English Language, Bs in art and design, history, maths, further maths and statistics and Cs in religious studies, biology, chemistry, physics and ICT.

The sisters were part of a successful year at Brigshaw High.

The school’s principal, Cath Lennon, said: “We are delighted with our students’ achievements. We feel that in this Olympic year our pupils have worked incredibly hard to accomplish their own individual personal best.”

The Clements sisters were also among a series of siblings enjoying exam success in Yorkshire.

Triplets Zoe, George and Alex Ellaby celebrated collecting 30 GCSEs between them yesterday including 20 A and A*s grades at Ashville College in Harrogate.

The siblings from nearby Blubberhouses, have gone to the independent school for the past five years and now have their sights set on sixth form and university.

Zoe achieved three A*s, six As and a B, George picked up two As, four Bs and four Cs while Alex earned seven A*s, two As and a B. Zoe said: “Between us we have done much better than we expected, but we all knew Alex would do the best as she is the brightest of the three.”

George said: “We are now going into Ashville’s sixth form and from there hopefully university.

“However, at this stage we don’t know what we want to study.”

Alex said: “There is some rivalry between us, but more between Zoe and myself.

“The good news is none of us failed any exams.”

Bootham School pupil Gemma Hayward was able to follow the example of her big sister by achieving 11 straight As* at GCSE a week after Abi secured three As at A-level . Gemma is now going to study her A-levels.
