Skills scheme aiming to boost job prospects

The Building My Skills scheme is being managed by construction company Esh Group on behalf of businesses from across the region.

The programme aimes to provide local students with a broad introduction to the world of work.

Delivered over the course of the 2014/15 academic year, each student will complete five workshops and undertake mock interviews.

Andy Gawthorpe, regional managing director of Esh Construction, said: “Students from across the region will benefit from valuable employment skills courses delivered by business people, who understand the pressures of business today.” The scheme will provide training to all students, regardless of their ability or the career path they want to pursue.

The Building My Skills programme is also being provided at no cost to schools or local authorities.

The first schools to take part in the programme are Trinity Academy, in Halifax, Ossett Academy, near Wakefield, Moor End Academy in Huddersfield, and Bradford Academy and Dixons Allerton Academy in Bradford.

The scheme is also set to work with schools in both Hull and York. Esh Group say they hope local students will “gain a greater understanding of the workplace and opportunities available within different sectors and create an employability portfolio, which will help to improve employability prospects.”
