Students celebrate rush of top marks

STAR students across the region have celebrated picking up 10 or more of the coveted A* grade in this year’s GCSE exams.

At Morley Academy staff praised the “phenomenal” achievement of Rowan Taylor who picked up 14 A*s.

Imogen Raper-Linley, a pupil at Trinity Academy in Thorne, achieved 12 A* grades and three As yesterday. Her school said this achievement was made more impressive because they were all achieved “in traditional and demanding subjects”.

She picked up A*s in English, maths, science, biology, chemistry, physics, business communications, French, German, additional science, English literature and statistics, and As in art, economics and religious studies.

Sheffield High pupil Camelia Yousefpour, from Nether Edge, earned 12 A*s in all her GCSE subjects as well as an A grade in A-level French.

Heckmondwike Grammar, a selective school which converted to academy status in the last school year, had 12 students which each achieved 11 or more grades at either A* or distinction in equivalent qualifications.

The school’s top performers were Ciar Donnelly, Ciara Flannery, Alexandra Greenhough, Emma Harris, Mahrukh Hussain, Isaac Kitchen-Smith, Peter Lees, Asim Mahmood, Amy Royston, Sudheer Shabir, Shameemah Sidat and Robert Woodyet.

Grammar School at Leeds pupil Yoel Sevi, from Harrogate, is celebrating 11 A*s, including a GCSE in Mandarin which he completed in just six months.

St Mary’s School in Menstion also reported major successes yesterday as Aine Donnelly and Christina Graham achieved 11 A* grades, while Charlotte O’Byrne achieved 11A*s and two As.

Ashville College pupil Will Prentis became the first in the Harrogate school’s history to achieve a straight 11 A*s. Charlotte Stockton was the top student at the independent Mount School in York as she received 10 straight 10 A*s. At Harrogate Ladies College Amelia Horne and Alice Barber both received 10 A*s each.
