Universities in city set to put up ‘full’ signs

Neither of Leeds’s universities expects to have any places available through clearing tomorrow as A-level students scramble to avoid next year’s tuition fee increase.

Leeds and Leeds Metropolitan have both predicted being full once this year’s exam results are revealed.

One regional education chief has, however, urged school leavers not to panic. Huddersfield University’s deputy vice chancellor Professor Peter Slee said he believed students with good grades get into higher education.

Fewer students are taking gap years this year as many look to avoid fees of £9,000 in 2012. Nationally, last year, more than 200,000 people failed for find places.
