Sheffield and York University both feature in the new table compiled by Times Higher Education.

The UK has more “international” universities than anywhere else in the world, according to the rankings published today. It shows almost a third of entries in the top 200 are from the UK - with 64 institutions listed - while 39 make the top 100. York is ranked in 93rd place and Sheffield is ranked 99th.

Bradford University is just outside the top 100 in 118th place.

The highest placed British university is Imperial College London in 10th place, followed by Oxford and University College London in joint 18th.

Qatar University has taken the top spot overall, followed by the University of Luxembourg, with the University of Hong Kong in third place, the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in Switzerland taking fourth spot and the University of Geneva, also in Switzerland, ranked in fifth place.

Sheffield University’s place in the table follows its We Are International campaign, designed to show the value of international students across the UK, “both from an economic, cultural and skills perspective.” The campaign is now supported by more than 100 UK universities and colleges, the British Council and the Home Office.
