University business school offers scholarship to voluntary sector

Traditionally EMBAs are carried out by people working in business but the university believes the qualification could also benefit those working for charities.

The scholarship is worth £18,400 over two years.

MBA programme director Dr Dianne Dean said: “We wanted to offer this full fee scholarship to an individual from the voluntary sector to help overcome the barriers to this type of further education.

“We are very much committed to engaging with the community and the voluntary sector as part of our responsible leadership philosophy.”

“As a result of our strength in engaging varied organisations, our EMBAs attract a broad range of delegates from diverse business backgrounds.

The EMBA aims to equip graduates with high-level skills in areas such as problem-solving, leadership, marketing, logistics and communication.

Jane Stafford graduated this year with an EMBA from the business school and is managing director of Hull-based charity, Child Dynamix.

She said: “The opportunity to network with people from all over the world and from so many different business backgrounds was a real highlight.

“The executive MBA was extremely diverse and gave me the chance to learn about the next level of business and generate new ideas.

“I have come away with more of the tools I need to enable me to ensure Child Dynamix continues to succeed into the future.”
