Guiseley cancel Kidderminster Harriers clash and wait for vote on National League season

GUISELEY have joined a number of other National League North clubs in declaring they will take no further part in the 2020-21 season until they know the outcome of a vote among clubs to determine how to resolve the issue of funding.

Clubs were bailed out by £10m worth of government grants in October, but these have now ceased and been replaced with £11m of loans, which are available until March.

There are no known plans for how the remainder of the season would then be funded if matches continue behind closed doors. Clubs were under the impression the second tranche of funding would also be in the form of grants, wrongly says the Government.

As a result, all 66 clubs in the National League and the North and South divisions have been asked to vote on how they wish to proceed.

Having seen Saturday’s game against Boston postponed due to a frozen Nethermoor pitch, the Lions were due to host Kidderminster Harriers on Tuesday night.

But in a statement released yon Tuesday morning, the club said: “We will not be participating in the fixture against Kidderminster nor any further National League North fixtures until the result of the vote is known.

“At that time we will reassess our situation based on whether the season is curtailed or continued, and whether we can field a team without placing our club into situation whereby it is trading insolvent.”

All postponements are subject to a league investigation, but they have said these will not take place until the future of the season is decided. Many clubs have already cast their votes on whether to play on, but the deadline to do so is February 28.

Farsley Celtic and Bradford Park Avenue have also said they will not play any further fixtures until the outcome of the vote is known. York City, meanwhile, are keen to carry on and are due to make history on Tuesday night when they played their first-ever game - behind-closed-doors - at their new LNER Community Stadium at Monk’s Cross.
