Harrogate Town can start looking up – George Thomson

George Thomson believes that Harrogate Town can now start looking at how high up the League Two standings they can finish rather than worrying about a survival scrap.

The Sulphurites recorded back-to-back victories for the first time since October on Saturday, following up last weekend’s 2-1 home win over Newport County with a fine 3-1 success at Crawley Town.

And their most recent triumph, which came about courtesy of first-half strikes from Aaron Martin, Josh March and Simon Power, saw Simon Weaver’s team climb six places in the table.

This means that Harrogate now sit 12 points clear of the relegation zone and just 11 shy of the division’s final play-off berth.

“Moving up six places with a win is what happens when you start stringing results together,” Thomson said.

“This is a tight league and now all of a sudden we’re closer to the play-offs than we are the bottom two – it’s something that has been taking shape over the last few weeks. Obviously it’s good for us. It’s good for confidence and belief when you look at the table and it looks loads better than when you’re sitting a couple of places above the bottom-two.

“We’ve just got to keep going, keep learning and keep grinding out results. We need to start winning games at home, build on the Newport result last week and try and make it a fortress between now and the end of the season.

“If we can do that then we will keep climbing the table, and we’ll see where we end up.”
