Bid to raise profile of disorders

CROSSBENCH peer Baroness Meacher says she hopes to raise awareness of bleeding disorders among young women in her new role as president of the Haemophilia Society.

While haemophilia affects only males – around 7,000 in the UK – the Haemophilia Society is the only national organisation working for everyone with bleeding disorders.

She said: “I hope to assist the Department of Health’s campaign to raise awareness of bleeding disorders among women and to encourage young women in particular to go to their GPs if they have concerns.”
