Charity’s appeal for volunteer therapists

The Marigold Wellbeing Centre in Harrogate offers treatments to people with chronic conditions. It was formerly the Yorkshire Cancer Help Centre which provided support to complement conventional medicine for 25 years.

Patients with complaints including cancer, multiple sclerosis, heart problems and depression are given treatments including reflexology, reiki, counselling, spiritual healing and aromatherapy by practitioners giving their services free. Support is also offered free to carers, family and friends of patients.

Volunteer Maggie Chester said more therapists and general helpers were needed. Some patients came for a few sessions but others had attended for years.

“We give support to all sorts of people and often those caring for them as well which is unique. It’s fantastic helping people so they go out feeling a lot better than when they came in,” she said.

The services are provided at Saint Michael’s Hospice in Harrogate. Any practitioners who would like to volunteer can call Mrs Chester on 01756 730489.
