Public health experts in Leeds have confirmed 14 cases of measles in the city.

West Yorkshire Health Protection Unit and NHS Leeds are also aware of a further five possible cases of the disease, bringing the total number since the beginning of February to 19. Most involved students, and officials say it highlights the importance of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccination.

Dr Mike Gent, consultant in communicable disease control at West Yorkshire Health Protection Unit, said: “These recent cases are the first confirmed cases we have seen in Leeds since 2009.”
