'Coronavirus robbed me of my dad': Leeds woman praises LGI staff after dad dies from coronavirus

A woman from Leeds has praised LGI staff after her dad tragically passed away from coronavirus.

Selwyn Ellis, 82, died from coronavirus today (April 8).

In an emotional tribute to her dad, his daughter Sarah Ellis said she couldn't thank staff on ward 22 at Leeds General Infirmary enough.

Posting on local forum Leedsplace, Sarah said: "I just want to say a big thank you to all on ward 22 at the LGI who have looked after my dad.

"I can't thank you enough for being with him at the time his family couldn't.

"I have laughed on the phone and cried on the phone with you all.

"There is nothing much I can say, Covid-19 robbed my family of a dad, Grandad, Uncle, Brother, and brother in law, but YOU made sure he was at peace and had his dignity.

"From my family to all of your families, thank you for all you do."

Sarah told the Yorkshire Evening Post that her dad took care of the war grave in France and lived in the town of Ham during his life.

She said her dad was survived by two sisters, two sons, herself, two grandchildren and was an uncle to many.

She said: "He used to work for the parks in his youth planting a lot of trees in Yeadon and around the chevin.

"He left and went to take care of the war graves in France and lived in the town of Ham.

"He cared for the war graves from the battle of the Somme."
