The Cabinet Office tweeted: “An unauthorised tweet was posted on a government channel this evening. The post has been removed and we are investigating the matter.”

Members of the public jokingly called for the tweeter to receive a knighthood and multi-millionaire author JK Rowling offered to pay a year’s salary to the culprit.
