More than 50 new Covid deaths in Yorkshire as total passes 8,000 in county

A total of 59 new Covid deaths have been recorded in Yorkshire hospitals according to the latest daily update.

Figures released by NHS England show 474 deaths were recorded in the country's hospitals in the 24 hours to 4pm on Tuesday (February 16), including 59 in Yorkshire and The Humber.

The deaths were between April 1 2020 and February 15 2021.

The time taken for positive results to be received is among the potential factors in a delay between a death happening and being recorded.

Since April 28 2020, NHS England and NHS Improvement also started to report the number of patient deaths where there has been no Covid-19 positive test result but it is documented as a direct or underlying cause of death in the death certification process.

The figures for the latest reporting period show there were 39 such deaths in England.

A total of 8,034 people have died with the virus in Yorkshire according to statistics.

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 1

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust: 6

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 3

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust: 1

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 11

Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust: 1

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust: 10

Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust: 1

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust: 1

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust: 1

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 5

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 4

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust: 8

According to Government data, a total of 10,036 patients across all hospital trusts and community settings in Yorkshire and the Humber have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 up to February 16.

This equates to 182.4 deaths per 100,000 people since the pandemic began.

Separate Office for National Statistics data, updated weekly, shows there have been a total of 11,152 deaths recorded in Yorkshire and The Humber where the death certificate mentioned Covid-19 as one of the causes.

This equates to 202.7 deaths per 100,000 people since the pandemic began.
