The leagues have concerns about the financial impact on their clubs of the suspension of matches, which will last until April 30 on the earliest. A new, later, date could be proposed next week.

The union has a duty to protect its members, with some worried about wage deferrals and the prospect of playing games behind closed doors.

A joint statement on behalf of the organisations said: “Further meetings will take place next week with a view to formulating a joint plan to deal with the difficult circumstances facing the leagues, their clubs, players, staff and fans.”
