Total of 43 new Covid deaths in Yorkshire in first update during tier restrictions in December

A total of 43 new Covid deaths have been recorded in Yorkshire hospitals in an update released on the first day of tier restrictions in December.

Deaths were recorded where a patient either tested positive for Covid-19 or where no positive test result was received for Covid-19, but Covid-19 was mentioned on their death certificate.

NHS England releases updated figures each day showing the dates of every coronavirus-related death at hospitals in England, often including previously uncounted deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago.

The highest increase was recorded by Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trustt with 14 new deaths.

In Leeds hospitals, three new deaths were recorded.

The death toll in the county from the virus has now risen to 4,893.

The deaths were recorded by the following trusts:

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 4

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust: 4

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 1

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust: 1

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 3

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust: 3

Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust: 14

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust: 3

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust: 1

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 3

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust: 1
