Two children test positive for coronavirus as West Yorkshire school prepares to reopen

Two children who have been attending a West Yorkshire primary school have tested positive for Covid-19.

Cath Palmer, headteacher at St Paul's Church of England Primary School in Wibsey, Bradford, wrote to parents to advise them on the need to self-isolate if they have come into contact with the two pupils, who are from the same household.

The school was told about the positive tests on Monday (June 1), and extra cleaning was carried out at the school on Monday and Tuesday.

Both pupils have recovered.

Ms Palmer wrote: "On Monday 1st June, we were informed that two children who have recently attended school, from the same household, had tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend.

"We are pleased to share that they are now well and have fully recovered.

"After liaison with Public Health England and the DfE we have followed our school response procedures: informing all parents of children and staff who may have come into contact with those affected and advised them of self-isolation guidance.

"Additional cleaning was carried out on Monday and Tuesday as an extra precaution.

"School is open to keyworker and vulnerable children from today (Wednesday), in the same way that it has been for the last eleven weeks, and the planned phased re-opening, starting with Year Six, is on Monday 15th June.

"We understand that these are concerning times for everyone but please be assured that we have worked very closely with Public Health England to ensure that all procedures have been followed; we have been guided by them throughout this period."

Thorpe Primary School, in Idle, Bradford, was forced to close entirely on Monday after a member of staff tested positive for Covid-19.

It is expected to reopen for children of key workers and vulnerable pupils on Monday, June 8.
