Yorkshire hospitals record 47 new coronavirus deaths in latest update

There have been 47 new Covid-19 deaths recorded at hospitals in Yorkshire, according to the latest statistics.

Figures released by NHS England show 494 deaths were recorded in the country's hospitals in the 24 hours to 4pm on Wednesday (February 10), including 47 in Yorkshire and The Humber.

The deaths were between December 23 and February 10, with the majority being on or after February 6.

The time taken for positive results to be received is among the potential factors in a delay between a death happening and being recorded.

Patients were aged between 27 and 103. All except 22, aged between 51 and 87, had known underlying health conditions.

Since April 28 2020, NHS England and NHS Improvement also started to report the number of patient deaths where there has been no Covid-19 positive test result but it is documented as a direct or underlying cause of death in the death certification process.

The figures for the latest reporting period show there were 63 such deaths in England.

Airedale NHS Foundation Trust - 1

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - 2

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust - 6

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 4

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust - 1

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 2

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust - 5

Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust - 8

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust - 2

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 8

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 6

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - 2

According to Government data, a total of 9,822 patients across all hospital trusts and community settings in Yorkshire and the Humber have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 up to February 10.

This equates to 178.5 deaths per 100,000 people since the pandemic began.

Separate Office for National Statistics data, updated weekly, shows there have been a total of 10,767 deaths recorded in Yorkshire and The Humber where the death certificate mentioned Covid-19 as one of the causes.

This equates to 195.7 deaths per 100,000 people since the pandemic began.
