Yorkshire hospitals record lowest daily Covid death total since January
Figures released by NHS England show 313 deaths were recorded in the country's hospitals in the 24 hours to 4pm on Sunday (February 8), including 26 in Yorkshire and The Humber.
It is Yorkshire's lowest daily total since January 3, when 26 deaths were also recorded.

Hide AdThe deaths across England took place between December 24 2020 and February 7 2021, with the majority being on or after February 3.
The time taken for positive results to be received is among the potential factors in a delay between a death happening and being recorded.
Patients were aged between 16 and 108. All except six, aged between 49 and 81, had known underlying health conditions.
The data represents the deaths of hospital patients who had tested positive for Covid-19 in the previous 28 days and whose deaths were recorded in the latest reporting period.

Hide AdSince April 28 2020, NHS England and NHS Improvement also started to report the number of patient deaths where there has been no Covid-19 positive test result but it is documented as a direct or underlying cause of death in the death certification process.
The figures for the latest reporting period show there were 13 such deaths in England.
Deaths were recorded at the following hospital trusts in Yorkshire and the Humber:
Airedale NHS Foundation Trust - 3
Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - 1
Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 6
Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust - 3
Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 2
Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust - 1
Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 3
Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust - 1
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - 2
York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - 4
According to Government data, a total of 9,645 patients across all hospital trusts and community settings in Yorkshire and the Humber have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 up to February 8.

Hide AdSeparate Office for National Statistics data shows there have been a total of 10,305 deaths recorded in Yorkshire and The Humber where the death certificate mentioned Covid-19 as one of the causes.
