Firm in deal for GP out-of-hours care

HEALTH chiefs have revealed a not-for-profit firm has won a second contract in the region to provide GP out-of-hours services.

Northern Doctors Urgent Care Ltd will take over running services in the Vale of York from April in a £4 million deal over three years.

The social enterprise, based in the North East, was last week revealed to have won a £15m five-year contract to run urgent care and out-of-hours services in Scarborough and Ryedale.

It is also believed to be among those being considered to take on the running of Whitby hospital and out-of-hours services in the area.

GP Andrew Phillips, lead for urgent care at Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Members of the public will be able to access urgent care in the same way.

“They should still call 111, the free, fast and easy way to get the right help, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and depending on their condition, appropriate help will be arranged for them.”

The firm replaces current providers of out-of-hours GP care in the Vale of York run by Primecare in the Ryedale area, NHS Humber in Pocklington and by the Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust in the remaining part of the area including York.
