Genetic pattern linked to autism

Scientists have identified a genetic pattern common to people with autism that is linked to the way messages are sent in the brain.

Medical Research Council researchers at Oxford University said the finding could help explain the genetics’ role in autism.

Doctors can currently only identify the exact genetic cause of autism in about one case in five but known that genes are important role in the development of autism spectrum disorders, an MRC spokeswoman said.

Writing in the journal PLOS Genetics, the researchers said affected genes worked together as part of a biological network.
