Lack of support for unpaid carers is ‘state neglect’ says Yorkshire MP

The Government has said long-term solutions will be looked at in its long-delayed Social Care Green Paper.

A spokesperson said: “Carers make an invaluable contribution to society by selflessly caring for friends and family and this must not come at the expense of their own health and wellbeing, or employment and life chances.

“We are determined to support carers to stay in or find employment including through our Carers Action Plan, a two-year programme of targeted work including working with councils and local authorities on best practice for carers breaks and respite.

“Our forthcoming Green Paper will look at long-term sustainable solutions for the social care system, including measures to support carers.”
