Lowest increase in Yorkshire Covid deaths this month as 27 more recorded

The lowest increase in Yorkshire Covid deaths has been recorded since January - with 27 more in hospitals in the region announced in the daily update.

Figures released by NHS England show 410 deaths were recorded in the country's hospitals in the 24 hours to 4pm on Saturday, including 27 in Yorkshire and The Humber.

The deaths took place between April 19 2020 and February 6 2021, with the time taken for positive results to be received among the potential factors in a delay between a death happening and being recorded.

The data represents the deaths of hospital patients who had tested positive for Covid-19 in the previous 28 days and whose deaths were recorded in the latest reporting period.

Since April 28 2020, NHS England and NHS Improvement also started to report the number of patient deaths where there has been no Covid-19 positive test result but it is documented as a direct or underlying cause of death in the death certification process.

The figures for the latest reporting period show there were 29 such deaths in England.

Deaths were recorded at the following hospital trusts in Yorkshire and the Humber:

Airedale NHS Foundation Trust: 3

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 1

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust: 4

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust: 1

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 3

Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust: 4

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust: 4

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 6

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust: 1

According to Government data, a total of 9,627 patients across all hospital trusts and community settings in Yorkshire and the Humber have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 up to February 7.

Separate Office for National Statistics data shows there have been a total of 10,305 deaths recorded in Yorkshire and The Humber where the death certificate mentioned Covid-19 as one of the causes.
