‘Miracle’ of wedding night baby defies doctors’ odds

A COUPLE told they had a minuscule chance of having a child naturally are expecting a “miracle baby”.

Nicola and Karl Medina had spent £40,000 over four years on fertility treatment.

They had five cycles of IVF but even then doctors said Nicola’s chances of getting pregnant were less than one per cent.

As the couple began to fear they may never have their own child, they were astonished to discover that they had conceived naturally.

The conception date was timed to their wedding night.

Nicola said: “It’s a miracle. When we found out the dates, for us to conceive on the wedding night is amazing.”

“I would’ve married her seven years before if I’d known this was going to happen,” Karl, from Churwell, Leeds, added.

The couple, who have been together since 2005, had three cycles of IVF in 2009 after trying for a baby for several years.

However the treatment, which they paid for as Karl’s two children for a previous marriage means they are not eligible for NHS funding, was unsuccessful.

“The conclusion of my consultant was I had failed ovarian function and had a less than 1 per cent chance of getting pregnant naturally or with IVF,” Nicola said.

Tests revealed she had gynaecological problems, for which she had surgery.
