NHS checks lifted on GP-led group

NHS England imposed a string of conditions on the running of the GP-led NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) amid long-standing concerns over the financial stability of the health service in North Yorkshire.

Officials said yesterday it had now met all the requirements.

The decision means the organisation, which commissions services for more than 300,000 people, is no longer subject to detailed monitoring which had included checks on its capacity to make savings.

Chief operating officer Rachel Potts said: “We are a young organisation, but we are developing fast and have big plans for the future.

“In the first few months as a CCG, it was important that our energy and focus concentrated on having the best systems in place so we were resilient and worked as effectively and efficiently as possible.

“Continually improving and developing as an organisation is very important to us and now that the authorisation process is complete, we will continue to monitor our performance, concentrating on how we can work innovatively and be an even stronger.”

Chief clinical officer GP Mark Hayes said it was “great news” and an “important step towards realising our vision of achieving the best health and wellbeing for everyone in the community”.
