protesters urge rethink

SEVERAL hundred protesters from across the North met in Leeds to call for an urgent re-think of the Government’s NHS reforms.

Top consultants, nurses, other health workers and student doctors were joined by members of the public for the demonstration.

They heard warnings the planned reforms posed a grave threat to the health service, which is achieving record high levels of public satisfaction.

Consultant in communicable diseases Martin Schweiger told the protesters there was always room for improvement in the NHS.

But he added: “I’m struggling to see what benefits these reforms will bring.”
