NHS England said 94.3 per cent of patients spent four hours or less from arrival to admission, transfer or discharge last week, up from 93.3 per cent the previous week.

At Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, only 76 per cent of patients were seen within the target time - the second worst performance in the country.

The target has not been met in England since the week ending September 28, but yesterday’s figure is the best since the week ending October 5. NHS England said: “These latest performance figures are a great credit to everyone given the continuing pressure on the service.”
