St Gemma's Hospice rated as '˜outstanding' after inspection

HEALTH watchdogs heaped praise on St Gemma's Hospice in Moortown in a report following an unannounced inspection.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found the overall quality of care provided by St Gemma’s to be outstanding following the inspection in July.

Inspectors stated in the report: “Without exception, everyone we spoke with felt the care given was of the highest standard and that there was no room for improvement.”

One patient told inspectors: “Staff are so friendly and are genuinely caring people. It comes natural rather than being just a job.”

Another patient said: “I couldn’t have wished to be brought to anywhere that is as wonderful as this. They have so much time for me, you would think I was the only one here – they make you feel like that.”

St Gemma’s was rated outstanding overall, outstanding for being effective, caring, responsive and well-led and good for being safe.

St Gemma’s chief executive Kerry Jackson, said: “We are delighted with this rating and especially proud that we also achieved an outstanding score in four out of the five key domains assessed.

This is very much a team effort and this wonderful result highlights the quality of our care, our people and the organisation as a whole. I would like to acknowledge the outstanding team of staff and volunteers for their commitment to providing the best possible care and support to patients and their loved ones, both in the hospice and out across the community.

“We wouldn’t be able to do this without the amazing support we receive from the wider community, our volunteers and fundraisers. Everyone who donates and buys at our charity shops, takes part in our fundraising events, and contributes in any way allows us to continue providing this care. I would like to extend my gratitude to each and every one of you.”
