View The Yorkshire Post’s second 260th anniversary supplement in full

The paper which would eventually become The Yorkshire Post had been launched by printer Griffith Wright and it would be some decades before photography became an important part of the offering.

However, once it did, the paper quickly prided itself on employing some of the most talented news photographers in the country.

To celebrate the 260th anniversary of The Yorkshire Post over the coming months we will be running a series of supplements showcasing the very best from our photographic archive, from dramatic images capturing the landscape of the Dales and the coast to the various Royal visits and military events which have taken place in the county.

Our first supplement, Making the Headlines, begins in the 19th century as Leeds emerged as an industrial powerhouse. It takes in two World Wars, the county’s sporting highs and lows and celebrates those people whose determination, talent and hard work successfully put the county on the map.

In our second supplement, we focus on the Royal visits and military events which have taken place in the county. From the Queen’s visit to Leeds in 1958 to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s appearance at the start of this year’s Tour de France in Leeds, our photographers, the collection shown here is just a snap shot of The Yorkshire Post’s impressive royal archive.
