How Skelmanthorpe pulls out all the stops – The Yorkshire Post says

THE bustling West Yorkshire village of Skelmanthorpe is rightly proud of its history – it even features in the Domesday Book – while, more recently, the achievements of Doctor Who actress Jodie Whittaker, who hails from the tight-knit community, have extenuated this sense of civic pride.

It’s little wonder, therefore, that the Skelmanthorpe Training Band, a group of musicians maintaining the village’s tradition for brass band music and entertainment, was not going to be silenced and become another cultural victim of the Covid pandemic.

Quite the opposite. In the best spirit of ‘the show must go on’, its musicians have pulled out all the stops to perform on social media, sent DVDs of it renditions to care homes to entertain the elderly and performed doorstep serenades – socially distanced of course – in order to raise vital funds, all in the best traditions of a special village that continues to epitomise the very best of Yorkshire.
