John Lundstram not ruling out staying at Sheffield United beyond the end of current contract

The Blades have been trying to tie their midfielder down since the middle of last season, with no luck. His deal expires in the summer and early in the campaign, manager Chris Wilder said he had reached the point where he was resigned to the 26-year-old running down his contract, and the club were open to offers for him in January.

None were forthcoming, though, and after a bitty start to the campaign, he has kicked off the last seven matches, his longest run in the side since 2019-20. The Blades have won five of those games giving new hope to a relegation battle that was beginning to look lost.

Lundstram has been free to talk to other clubs since the start of the year, but says he is open-minded about staying at Bramall Lane.

“It's the same situation,” he said when asked about his position. “Everything's still on the table.”

Pressed on whether he had decided to leave the club he joined in 2017, he responded: “No, no, everything's still on the table, we'll see what happens.

“(Talk about my situation) is bound to happen but I'm here and while I am here I'm committed. You'll see from my performances I'm always 110 per cent, no one could ever question my commitment while I'm at the club. Who knows what will happen but while I'm at the club I'll always give everything.”

Wilder said last week he was unaware of any interest in the Merseysider in the January transfer window.

“January was just all about the games for me,” said Lundstram. “It was about getting my head down and working in training and just trying to get the results. We had a really good month. It was quite an enjoyable month because we were picking up results.”
