Libby Squire murder: Killer Pawel Relowicz to have sentence reviewed

A sexual predator who was jailed for the murder and rape of University of Hull student Libby Squire, could have his sentence increased after his case was referred to the Attorney General.

Pawel Relowicz, 26, is currently serving a minimum of 27 years in prison after raping Miss Squire, 21, before dumping her, either dead, dying or alive, in the River Hull.

Sheffield Crown Court had heard how the married father-of-two had committed a string of sex offences against women in Hull, before killing the philosophy student.Relowicz's case will now be examined under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme.

A spokeswoman for the Attorney General’s Office said: "We have received a request for the sentence of Pawel Relowicz to be considered under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme.

"The Law Officers have 28 days from sentencing to consider the case and make a decision."

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal has confirmed Relowicz's defence team has not so far lodged an appeal against his conviction or sentence.

A person convicted of a sentence has 28 days to appeal, which means Relowicz has a week left to lodge an appeal, if he wishes to do so.
