It was a tale as old as time at Leeds Rag 10th Anniversary Fashion Show 2018. Review by Harriet Timmins.

This year’s Leeds RAG Fashion Show took its audience on a journey through the ages and then into the future.

In aid of charities Leeds Mind and Dementia UK, the show at Leeds University Union was divided into five parts, each with its own creative flair and an ability to maintain a grip on the sold-out audience.

The Time.less theme took us through universal stages of life: birth, war, peace, death and revival. Each of these stages saw an incredibly creative and well choreographed catwalk of models who told a story through their clothes and their performance.

The war scene explored utility and aggression, carried through khaki and camouflage jackets and fishnet tights. After that, as a calm-after-the-storm contrast, the peace scene featured florals, pastels and barefoot models. The music was whimsical and the catwalk was calm and soothing while still showcasing some brilliant designs.

The finale of the show – the revival – was infectious with energy, and the clothes portrayed that. Highlights included a green patent shift dress, brightly patterned jumpsuits and lots of metallic.

This set opened with confetti, and a fun selection of music had models dancing – not walking – their way down the catwalk. The scene centred on re-painting your future, exuberantly executed by this vivid combination of clothes.

The production of this show has been in the making since October, and led solely by a student-run committee. All of the efforts from the team contributed not only to a brilliant production, showcasing a globally sourced collection of clothes, but ultimately raising money for two important charities.

Before the catwalk began, Mrs Wainwright, a spokesperson from Dementia UK, talked about the important work the charity is doing, and her own personal experiences with them. Dementia UK is aiming to have more Admiral nurses across Yorkshire and the rest of the country to offer much needed support to those suffering and those connected to people with dementia.

The LRFS 2018 was a production not to be missed, and the effort that has gone into its success truly shone through for its entirety.
