Fiendish Wine Quiz

Congratulations to everyone who entered the Fiendish Wine Quiz and researched the answers. I decided to set my most difficult quiz, requiring competence in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, maths, geography as well as vineyards, grapes and winemakers.

Wine trade people have told me that they were completely floored by the quiz, so everyone who entered deserves a pat on the back. Despite the fiendish questions the post-bag was bigger than ever, including several online readers from outside the usual Yorkshire Post region. It is not surprising that no-one scored full marks, but mistakes were few.

There was a clear winner, so congratulations to John Dyer of Huddersfield who will travel to Spain for a two-day private visit to Torres. The second prize goes to Mike Swinglehurst of York who receives six bottles of Torres wines while runners-up M and J Godfrey of Beverley, Mrs H Down of Warrington and AM Haigh of Huddersfield each receive a pair of books, 500 Red Wines by yours truly and 500 White Wines by Natasha Hughes and Patricia Langton. Honourable mentions but no prizes go to G Blakeley, C Hill, AK Holt, M Hopwood and D Stride. A full list of correct answers will appear next week, but if you would like your individual score you can email me at the address below.
