On the grapevine

Oz Clarke's Pocket Wine Book 2011, published by Pavilion, (£9.99) has just been released and is jam-packed full of up-to-the-minute information. Everything is arranged in alphabetical order, so you don't need to know that a particular property is in Bordeaux, France or even the northern hemisphere, you just look up the name. A great stocking filler.

For anyone seriously interested in wine The Finest Wines of Bordeaux (Aurum Press, 20) by James Lawther, Master of Wine is a must. Described as a regional guide to the best Chateaux and their wines, it takes a serious but very enjoyable look at the most famous wine region in the world without getting bogged down in detail. There's an explanation of the Bordeaux Place – the marketplace for top wines. Then 90 chateaux and their wines are featured.
